AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE TRAFFIC SAFETY BUREAU OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TO HIRE A FULL-TIME EMPLOYEE TO SUPERVISE THE RULEMAKING PROCESS FOR INSTALLATION OF IGNITION INTERLOCK DEVICES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the traffic safety bureau of the department of transportation for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to hire one full-time employee to draft rules and supervise the rulemaking process regarding installation of ignition interlock devices pursuant to court orders, voluntary installation of ignition interlock devices in motor vehicles and a possible future requirement that every new or used motor vehicle sold in New Mexico shall be equipped with an ignition interlock device. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
