AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BILINGUAL MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION UNIT OF THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO CONTRACT FOR AN ASSESSMENT OF EXISTING NATIVE AMERICAN BILINGUAL PROGRAMS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the bilingual multicultural education unit of the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2005 to contract for an assessment of existing Native American bilingual programs. The assessment shall evaluate the strengths, needs and future direction of bilingual programs that serve thirty-six thousand Native American children in public schools throughout the state. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2005 shall revert to the general fund.
