AN ACT

RELATING TO ELECTIONS; REQUIRING REPORTING OF THE NUMBER OF BALLOTS CAST WITHIN FORTY-EIGHT HOURS OF AN ELECTION.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Election Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] POST-ELECTION DUTIES--REPORTING BALLOTS CAST.--Upon the closing of the polls, the county clerk shall determine the number of each type of ballot cast in the election in that county and transmit the information to the secretary of state. Within forty-eight hours of the election, the secretary of state shall report the number of each type of ballot cast statewide."
