AN ACT

RELATING TO CRIMES; PROHIBITING THE SALE OF, ATTEMPT TO SELL OR USE OF COCKFIGHTING PARAPHERNALIA; PRESCRIBING A PENALTY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. A new section of the Criminal Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] COCKFIGHTING PARAPHERNALIA SALE OR USE PROHIBITED--PENALTY.--

          A. A person who sells, attempts to sell or uses cockfighting gaffs or slashers in New Mexico is guilty of a fourth degree felony and shall be punished as provided in Section 31-18-15 NMSA 1978.

          B. As used in this section:

                (1) "cockfighting gaff" means an artificial spur designed to be attached to the leg of a fighting rooster or other bird; and

                (2) "cockfighting slasher" means a weapon resembling a curved knife blade designed to be attached to the leg of a fighting rooster or other bird."
