A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING A STUDY OF CONSOLIDATION OF THE CHILDREN'S COURT AND THE FAMILY COURT FACILITIES IN ALBUQUERQUE.

 

     WHEREAS, the children's court and the family court in Albuquerque currently occupy separate facilities; and

      WHEREAS, the functions of the two courts are closely related; and

     WHEREAS, the population served often overlaps; and

     WHEREAS, the consolidation of staff, security and records functions of the two courts could save public funds;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the administrative office of the courts be requested to conduct a study on the merits of consolidating the children's court and the family court in Albuquerque into a single, jointly used space; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the administrative office of the courts deliver a report, including recommendations on sites for consolidation, an estimate of expenses for undertaking such consolidation and resources for the consolidation, to the appropriate legislative interim committee by its October 2005 meeting; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the director of the administrative office of the courts.
