AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RESPONSE TO INTERVENTION REQUIREMENTS OF THE FEDERAL INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES EDUCATION ACT.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Twenty-seven million one hundred thirty thousand dollars ($27,130,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 to provide school districts with necessary funding to hire reading and mathematics specialists and other school personnel in elementary schools to provide interventions as required by the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
