AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION ENHANCING TRUANCY REDUCTION IN LAS CRUCES AREA PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Six hundred thousand dollars ($600,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 for the Las Cruces public schools, working in partnership with the local regional education initiative, to implement an enhanced truancy process, taking a countywide approach to improving attendance. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
