AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO ADDRESS TRUANCY ISSUES IN THE RIO GRANDE HIGH SCHOOL CLUSTER OF THE ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, IN THE BERNALILLO PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND IN THE LOS LUNAS PUBLIC SCHOOLS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred forty thousand dollars ($240,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2009 to address truancy issues as follows:

          A. one hundred twenty thousand dollars ($120,000) to hire two truancy officers at the Rio Grande high school cluster of the Albuquerque public schools. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund;

          B. sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) to hire one truancy officer for the Bernalillo public schools. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund; and

          C. sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) to hire one truancy officer for the Los Lunas public schools. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2009 shall revert to the general fund.
