A MEMORIAL

URGING THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO AND NEW MEXICO STATE UNIVERSITY TO PLAY THEIR RIVALRY FOOTBALL GAME DURING COLLEGE FOOTBALL RIVALRY WEEK.

 

     WHEREAS, football is of utmost importance to many New Mexico residents; and

     WHEREAS, the football rivalry between the university of New Mexico and New Mexico state university is long-standing and closely fought; and

     WHEREAS, college football rivalry week is traditionally the weekend following the Thanksgiving holiday; and

     WHEREAS, the Thanksgiving weekend is a reasonable time frame for scheduling the state's most controversial and tough football game because so many college students are home during the Thanksgiving period;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the university of New Mexico and New Mexico state university be requested to play their annual football game on either the Friday or the Saturday after Thanksgiving; and

     BE IT FURTHER resolved that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the presidents and football coaches of both the university of New Mexico and New Mexico state university.
