A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY AND ITS NEW MEXICO AFFILIATE CHAPTER, IOTA XI OMEGA, ON ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA'S ONE HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY.

 

     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, incorporated, which was founded on January 15, 1908 on the campus of Howard university in Washington, D.C., is the oldest Greek letter sorority in the United States and is celebrating its one hundredth anniversary; and

     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority represents a union of thousands of college-trained women who are bound by a powerful, cohesive strength, based on trust and loyalty, that is a motivating factor in the lives of students at more than four hundred institutions of higher education; and

     WHEREAS, as a significant organization, the sorority supports education, leadership and a strong sense of family in an ever-changing and increasingly complex world; and

     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority empowers communities through exemplary service initiatives and progressive programs; and

     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority provides an inspiration to many and adheres to its national motto, "by merit and by culture", and to its purpose, to be "supreme in service to all mankind"; and

     WHEREAS, Iota Xi Omega is the New Mexico affiliate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that it join with the rest of the nation in congratulating Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority for its one hundred years of service to the national and world communities; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the international president of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, the director of the sorority's south central region and the basileus of the sorority's Iota Xi Omega chapter.
