AN ACT

RELATING TO DOGS; PROHIBITING MUNICIPALITIES AND COUNTIES FROM ENACTING BREED-SPECIFIC ORDINANCES OR RULES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new Section 77-1-12.1 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

     "77-1-12.1. [NEW MATERIAL] PROHIBITION AGAINST BREED-SPECIFIC ORDINANCES OR RULES.--Municipalities and counties shall not adopt an ordinance or rule that regulates dogs in a manner that is specific to the breed of dog."

     SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2013.
