AN ACT

RELATING TO MOTOR VEHICLES; CREATING A SPECIAL REGISTRATION PLATE THAT REFLECTS SUPPORT FOR THE ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES BASEBALL TEAM AND PROVIDES FUNDING FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES IN NEW MEXICO; MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Motor Vehicle Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] SPECIAL REGISTRATION PLATE FOR SUPPORTERS OF THE ALBUQUERQUE ISOTOPES BASEBALL TEAM.--

          A. The department shall issue a standardized special registration plate with a logo designed in accordance with Subsection C of Section 66-3-424 NMSA 1978 that indicates that the owner of a vehicle is a supporter of the Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team.

          B. For a fee of thirty-five dollars ($35.00), which is in addition to the regular motor vehicle registration fee, the owner of a vehicle may apply for issuance of a special Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team supporter registration plate. The owner shall apply for the special Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team supporter registration plate and pay the fee each year to retain and renew the special registration plate.

          C. The revenue from the additional fee for the special Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team supporter registration plate shall be distributed as follows:

                (1) ten dollars ($10.00) of the additional fee shall be retained by and is appropriated to the department to defray the cost of making and issuing the special Albuquerque Isotopes baseball team supporter registration plate; and

                (2) twenty-five dollars ($25.00) of the additional fee collected shall be distributed to and is appropriated to the public education department for the purpose of funding middle school and high school athletics and activities in New Mexico."

     SECTION 2. EFFECTIVE DATE.--The effective date of the provisions of this act is July 1, 2013.
