AN ACT

RELATING TO HIGHER EDUCATION; PROVIDING FOR DEGREE PROGRAM CREDIT FOR MILITARY COURSEWORK OR MILITARY SERVICE.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of Chapter 21, Article 1 NMSA 1978 is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] DEGREE PROGRAM CREDITS FOR MILITARY COURSEWORK OR MILITARY SERVICE.--A board of regents or governing body of a public post-secondary educational institution and a governing body of a private post-secondary educational institution organized and operating pursuant to Chapter 21 NMSA 1978 may determine the credit hours for military coursework or military service relevant and transferable for a degree program requirement for a student who provides an armed forces joint services transcript, marine corps joint services transcript, navy joint services transcript, community college of the air force transcript, coast guard institute transcript or joint services transcript or another military transcript approved by the higher education department indicating completion of military coursework or military service by the student."
