A JOINT MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 5, 2014 AS "NDI NEW MEXICO DAY" IN THE LEGISLATURE.

 

     WHEREAS, the national dance institute of New Mexico (NDI) is celebrating its twentieth year of providing the children of New Mexico with programs that help them develop core skills, self-perceptions and critical thinking that set the stage for effective learning in the classroom; and

     WHEREAS, the national dance institute of New Mexico serves more than seven thousand five hundred children each year; and

     WHEREAS, the national dance institute of New Mexico has served seventy thousand children across the state since its inception; and

     WHEREAS, the national dance institute of New Mexico is a statewide nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children by teaching the national dance institute of New Mexico's "core four": work hard; do your best; never give up; and be healthy; and

     WHEREAS, the national dance institute of New Mexico is founded in the knowledge that the arts have a unique power to engage and motivate children; and

     WHEREAS, the purpose of the national dance institute of New Mexico's distinctive programs is to help children develop discipline, a standard of excellence and a belief in themselves that will carry over into all aspects of their lives; and

     WHEREAS, independent research shows that the national dance institute of New Mexico's award-winning programs positively impact children's academic achievement, health, quality of life and self-efficacy through consistent messaging, skill building and by providing positive role models; and

     WHEREAS, the Wallace foundation, a national leader in arts organization programming and management, endorsed the national dance institute of New Mexico as an "exemplary" program for the development of youth in the United States; and

     WHEREAS, the national dance institute of New Mexico is a public-private partnership that collaborates with federal, state and local government entities; public schools and school districts; businesses; individuals; and foundations to promote a platform for children's success and to develop educated, productive and engaged citizens who will create successful families and communities;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 5, 2014 be proclaimed "NDI New Mexico Day" in the legislature; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the national dance institute of New Mexico board.
