A MEMORIAL

EXCUSING SENATOR DANIEL IVEY-SOTO FROM ATTENDING THE OPENING DAY OF THE SECOND SESSION OF THE FIFTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE.

     WHEREAS, Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto missed the opening day of the 2014 legislative session due to the birth of his first child, the beautiful Olivia Rae, who arrived at 7:14 a.m. on January 21, 2014; and

     WHEREAS, daily, Senator Ivey-Soto's entrance into suite 300 of the state capitol is accompanied by a new photo of Olivia Rae; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Ivey-Soto knows that his constitutional rights, under both the United States constitution and the constitution of New Mexico, include the right to change diapers; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Ivey-Soto's laugh generally precedes him, and baby Olivia Rae will undoubtedly develop a wonderful laugh to complement her father's; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Ivey-Soto "knows it when he sees it"; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Ivey-Soto shall not have any conflicts with his first-born, real or perceived; and

     WHEREAS, since Senator Ivey-Soto is often missing in action, his staff offers his office to the first lobbyist, advocate or citizen who brings Starbucks coffee; and

     WHEREAS, together with his daily photo of Olivia Rae, Senator Ivey-Soto's entrance into his office contains a Starbucks grande iced coffee, necessitating a call to the Santa Fe Buckman road recycling and transfer station to clean out the accumulated plastic cups; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Ivey-Soto's usually meticulous office now resembles a Babies-R-Us store due to all of the gifts that Olivia Rae has received; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Ivey-Soto has left his cell phone at home on a couple of occasions, requiring his staff to retrieve it so that he can get his daily fix of Olivia Rae photos; and

     WHEREAS, a New Mexico state senator is entitled to a day off for the birth of a first-born child;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto's absence on the first day of the session be excused without penalty to Senator Ivey-Soto; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be sent to Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto and to Olivia Rae Ivey-Soto.
