AN ACT

RELATING TO ELECTIONS; ALLOWING QUALIFIED ELECTORS WHO ARE SIXTEEN YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER TO REGISTER TO VOTE IN SCHOOL ELECTIONS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. A new section of the Election Code is enacted to read:

     "[NEW MATERIAL] SPECIAL REGISTRATION FOR SCHOOL ELECTIONS.--

          A. A qualified elector who will be at least sixteen years of age on or before the day of the next school election shall be allowed to register to vote on a special registration form that will indicate that the qualified elector shall be considered to be a voter only for the purposes of voting in school elections.

          B. A qualified elector that is specially registered pursuant to Subsection A of this section shall be considered to be a voter for school election purposes and shall be allowed to vote in school elections."
