A MEMORIAL

DECLARING JANUARY 27, 2015 "SENIOR CITIZENS DAY" IN THE SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, fellow New Mexicans recognize the ultimate sacrifices that a generation gave of themselves during wartime to preserve the freedoms we enjoy today; and

     WHEREAS, recognition of achievements by a generation that helped shape a nation continues to enrich the lives of every New Mexican; and

     WHEREAS, much gratitude is deserved for the enormous contributions made daily by senior citizens to communities through their volunteer activities; and

     WHEREAS, respect is warranted for senior citizens, whose wisdom and experience enrich New Mexico's valued diversity; and

     WHEREAS, support is justified for programs and services such as those provided through the alliance for area agencies on aging and the aging network that are instrumental in allowing senior citizens of New Mexico to live independently and with dignity for as long as possible by joining together in one unified voice through advocacy and education to ensure continued access to, and excellence of, services that meet the needs and enrich the lives of senior citizens and persons with disabilities;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 27, 2015 be declared "Senior Citizens Day" in the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the aging and long-term services department.
