A MEMORIAL

PROCLAIMING FEBRUARY 18, 2015 AS "NEW MEXICO GRADS DAY" AT THE NEW MEXICO SENATE.

 

     WHEREAS, the New Mexico graduation reality and dual-role skills system, known as NM GRADS, has supported the educational and parenting success of expectant and parenting teens throughout New Mexico since 1989, facilitating the high school completion of four thousand one hundred fifty-three parenting students, while serving a total of fifteen thousand three hundred thirty-three expectant and parenting students and recruiting back into high schools a total of three thousand six hundred eighty-two expectant and parenting teens; and

     WHEREAS, NM GRADS facilitates student leadership, self-sufficiency and good citizenship as contributing members of society; and

     WHEREAS, NM GRADS facilitates the pursuit of higher education, technical training and employment; and

     WHEREAS, NM GRADS provides standards-aligned courses for high school credit taught by highly qualified licensed teachers; and

     WHEREAS, NM GRADS provides standards-aligned professional development for NM GRADS teachers, child development center staff and school and community partners; and

     WHEREAS, NM GRADS provides high quality training and support for state licensed child development centers; and

     WHEREAS, NM GRADS cultivates skills for healthy relationships with partners, co-parenting partners, peers, families and communities; and

     WHEREAS, NM GRADS educates students on ways to reduce risk-taking behaviors for the entire family;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that February 18, 2015 be proclaimed "New Mexico GRADS Day" in the senate; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Vannetta R. Perry, NM GRADS program consultant.
