A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE EMPLOYER SUPPORT OF THE GUARD AND RESERVE PROGRAM.

 

     WHEREAS, in 1972, the United States secretary of defense created a national organization, the employer support of the guard and reserve, to assist employers and citizen soldiers; and

     WHEREAS, the mission of the employer support of the guard and reserve program is to promote a culture in which all New Mexico employers support and value the military service of their employees and citizen soldiers; and

     WHEREAS, the employer support of the guard and reserve program recognizes the outstanding support of New Mexico employers for their citizen soldiers by increasing awareness of the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1964 and by resolving conflict through mediation; and

     WHEREAS, the employer support of the guard and reserve program provides employers and citizens with the opportunity to show their support by signing a "statement of support" that outlines the important areas governing employer and employee relations; and

     WHEREAS, the employer support of the guard and reserve program recognizes the importance of having citizen soldiers with meaningful jobs and actively encourages New Mexico employers to hire current and former members of the national guard and reserves and their family members;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the employer support of the guard and reserve program be recognized for the valuable service it provides to soldiers and their families; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the brigadier general of the employer support of the guard and reserve program.
