A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR JOHN A. SANCHEZ FOR HIS DEDICATION AND SERVICE TO THE NEW MEXICO SENATE AND ALL NEW MEXICANS.

 

     WHEREAS, Republican John A. Sanchez was first elected lieutenant governor for the legislative term beginning January 1, 2011 and was reelected for a second four-year term beginning January 1, 2015; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez was born and raised in Albuquerque and can trace his public service roots back to his great-great-grandfather, who was a territorial legislator from San Miguel county in 1860; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez began his political career when he was elected as a councilman for the village of Los Ranchos and served from 1992 to 2000; and

     WHEREAS, from 2001 to 2002, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez served in the house of representatives, representing district 15, which covers the north valley in Bernalillo county; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez serves as acting governor when the governor is absent from the state, as the state's ombudsman and as president of the senate; and

     WHEREAS, while presiding over the senate, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez has effectively displayed the dignity, poise and respect befitting that duty; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez has properly maintained decorum in the senate over a sometimes contentious body in a calm and reassuring manner; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez's treasure trove of chocolates in the top-right drawer of his desk undoubtedly provides the source of his good humor and pleasant disposition; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez sits on several boards, including the state board of finance, the New Mexico mortgage finance authority, the spaceport authority and the New Mexico community development council; and

     WHEREAS, as a former business owner, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez built one of New Mexico's most respected and successful small businesses, and the firm has operated continuously for more than thirty years and was twice honored as the small business of the year; and

     WHEREAS, Lieutenant Governor Sanchez and his wife are the proud parents of two grown daughters and reside in Albuquerque;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Lieutenant Governor John A. Sanchez be recognized for his outstanding service in presiding over and maintaining the decorum of the New Mexico senate and be honored for his public service and dedication to New Mexico; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to Lieutenant Governor John A. Sanchez.
