AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO ENHANCE SIX-WEEK-SUMMER AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL-TIME PROGRAMMING; REQUIRING A REPORT.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

     SECTION 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the public education department for expenditure in fiscal year 2024 to enhance six-week-summer and out-of-school-time programming that includes literacy and mathematics enrichment, social emotional learning, physical wellness and swimming, life and career skills and individualized tutoring for kindergarten through twelfth grade students attending public schools in the Albuquerque metropolitan area who are from under-resourced families. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2024 shall revert to the general fund. A report on the impact of this funding on academic achievement and student and family engagement shall be provided to the secretary of public education and the legislative education study committee by October 1, 2024.
