A MEMORIAL

DECLARING JANUARY 26, 2023 "NEW MEXICO FOOD AND FARMS DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY FOOD AND FARM INITIATIVES TOWARD ENDING HUNGER AND STRENGTHENING THE STATEWIDE FOOD SYSTEM.

 

     WHEREAS, New Mexico food and farms day celebrates the efforts of individuals, communities, organizations and agencies in creating a thriving local food, farming and ranching economy while emphasizing that everyone in New Mexico should have access to fresh, local, healthy and nutritious food; and

     WHEREAS, New Mexico food and farms day celebrates the following 2023 award recipients:

          A. the good food for New Mexico award, celebrating New Mexico farmers' markets: Clovis and Portales farmers' markets, Margie Plummer;

          B. the sowing change award, for organizations engaged in creating sustainable food systems: First Nations development institute, Richard Elm-Hill, lead program officer;

          C. the heart of the land award, for outstanding leadership in farming or ranching: Bidii baby foods, LLC, Mary and Zac Ben;

          D. the growing the future award, for new or young farmers and ranchers: Datura farms, Priscilla Marie Garcia Franzoni;

          E. the living land award, for outstanding leadership in land stewardship: Reunity resources farm, Juliana and Tejinder Ciano; and

          F. the New Mexico grown golden chile award, honoring all schools, senior centers and early child care centers that purchase New Mexico grown and raised products from farmers and ranchers;

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 26, 2023 be declared "New Mexico Food and Farms Day" in the house of representatives in celebration of community food and farm initiatives toward ending hunger and strengthening the statewide food system; and

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be transmitted to the governing board chair of the New Mexico food and agriculture policy council.
