AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR SUPPORT OF A STATEWIDE TEEN PREGNANCY PROGRAM TO ENSURE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION AND ACQUISITION OF APPROPRIATE PARENTING AND JOB SKILLS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of contracting with a program experienced in providing statewide services to interested school districts to assist pregnant teens and teen parents to complete high school while acquiring necessary parenting, social and economic skills to become responsible and independent adult parents. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
