AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO FUND SENIOR CITIZEN PROGRAMS STATEWIDE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Three million five hundred sixty-nine thousand one hundred sixty-nine dollars ($3,569,169) is appropriated from the general fund to the state agency on aging for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the following purposes and in the following amounts:

(1) two million nine hundred forty-two thousand four hundred eighty-five dollars ($2,942,485) to the six area agencies on aging for senior services, including case management, Alzheimer's respite care, adult daycare, congregate meals, home-delivered meals, transportation, in-home services and senior center services;

(2) five hundred six thousand eight hundred forty-seven dollars ($506,847) to provide for increased volunteers for the foster grandparent, senior companion and RSVP programs;

(3) four thousand eight hundred thirty-seven dollars ($4,837) for increased information, assistance and education services for individuals with Alzheimer's disease or related disorders and their families or caregivers;

(4) forty thousand dollars ($40,000) for statewide senior citizens olympics activities;

(5) fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) for increased health insurance and public benefits counseling services using peer counselors; and

(6) twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) to enhance statewide legal assistance for senior citizens.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
