AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR MUSICAL ORGANIZATIONS PROVIDING SYMPHONIC MUSIC FOR PUBLIC CONCERTS AND EDUCATIONAL PERFORMANCES STATEWIDE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the office of cultural affairs for expenditure in fiscal years 2000 and 2001 to fund musical organizations providing symphonic music for public concerts in communities throughout the state and for educational performances in public schools. Music organizations eligible for receiving these funds are limited to orchestras that conduct tours requiring overnight stays as part of the tour program and orchestras that provide day concerts for communities outside their cities of residence. Educational programs in schools may include performances by ensembles of less than orchestra size and solo instruments with accompaniment. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
