AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT FOR CONTRACT SERVICES FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW MEXICO MEDIA CENTER.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Three hundred twenty thousand dollars ($320,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the economic development department for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 to contract for services to establish a New Mexico media center to provide:

(1) facilities with the technical capabilities to support New Mexico-based filmmakers and film, video and media projects that explore local and regional issues;

(2) digital media and film production equipment, including cameras, full-capability editing suites and a reference library to state filmmakers;

(3) sponsorship of artist-in-residence programs for world-renowned filmmakers and workshops for local filmmakers; and

(4) an employment development program to seek out individuals with an interest in a potential career in media education or production of alternative media.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
