AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR WATERSHED ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS IN NEW MEXICO.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico state university for allocation to New Mexico soil and water conservation commission for expenditure in fiscal year 2001 for the purpose of conducting a pilot project to improve the Santa Fe watershed, including vegetation management to enhance water conservation and improve water quality. The New Mexico soil and water conservation commission shall cooperate with other federal, state and local agencies in ongoing projects. The institution receiving the special appropriation in this act shall submit a detailed cost summary at the end of the project, and program evaluation to the legislative finance committee and the commission higher education by August 1, 2003 detailing the benefits to the state from having this program implemented for a three-year period. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
