SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
This bill appropriates $150.0 from the general fund to the Commission on Higher Education to establish a full-time Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Taos.
Significant Issues
The SBDCs statewide guide new and small business owners in preparing business plans.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The appropriation of $150.0 contained in this bill is a recurring expense to the general fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of FY01 shall revert to the general fund.
CONFLICT/DUPLICATION/COMPANIONSHIP/RELATIONSHIP
This bill relates to Senate Bill 6 which provides the SBDCs $600.0 in additional funding, $150.0 of which is to establish a SBDC in Rio Rancho.
OTHER SUBSTANTIVE ISSUES
According to the EDD, SBDCs statewide could be attached to the EDD. Without the funding proposed in this bill, Taos would continue to be served by the SBDCs in Espanola, Los Alamos and Sant Fe.
