SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 186 appropriates $1,390.0 in general fund to the State Library Division of the Office of Cultural Affairs for the purpose of acquiring materials for public school libraries in FY01. At the close of FY01, any unexpended balance would revert to the general fund. Public school libraries would be eligible for $2.0 and would have to match the grant dollar-for-dollar.
Significant Issues
There are approximately 650 public school libraries (525 elementary and mid-school libraries and 125 high school libraries). University or public libraries would not be eligible to receive the funding.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The bill appropriated $1,390.0 in general fund. The enactment of HB 186 would not have other fiscal impact on the State Library Division.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The funding for public school libraries would be a flow-through from the State Library Division and would require minimal administrative effort. The division could handle the project with its existing resources.
