SUMMARY
Synopsis of Bill
House Bill 426 appropriates funds to the Tourism Department to assist the Gallup intertribal Indian ceremonial association with efforts to develop an archive for ceremonial artifacts and promote Indian ceremonial activities.
Significant Issues
The Tourism Department currently operates an Indian Tourism program within the Travel and Marketing Division. In fiscal year 1999, the department spent $97.5 or 1.5 percent of the division budget on Indian Tourism.
FISCAL IMPLICATIONS
The bill appropriates $240.0 from the general fund to the Tourism Department for expenditure in fiscal year 2001. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2001 shall revert to the general fund.
ADMINISTRATIVE IMPLICATIONS
The agency would utilize these funds in the Travel and Marketing Division. The appropriation would be expended through the Indian Tourism program of that division.
