SUMMARY

Synopsis of Bill

Senate Bill 362 creates a new section of the Criminal Code that would require prosecuting attorneys and the courts to expedite the adjudication of the following criminal cases: abandonment or abuse of a child, sexual exploitation of children, sexual exploitation of children by prostitution, criminal sexual penetration, criminal sexual contact of a minor, aggravated assault against a household member, and aggravated assault against a household member with intent to commit a violent felony. The bill creates exceptions for instances where expediting the case is not in the best interests of the child or the defendant will remain in custody until the case is adjudicated.
