A MEMORIAL

RECOGNIZING THE MEMBERS OF THE BERNALILLO MIDDLE SCHOOL BAND AND BAND DIRECTOR ROGER ALT FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND DEDICATION IN PREPARING TO BE NEW MEXICO'S OFFICIAL REPRESENTATIVE IN AN AMERICAN MUSICAL SALUTE TO THE NEW MILLENNIUM AND THE TWO HUNDREDTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE WHITE HOUSE.



WHEREAS, the United States is celebrating the two hundredth anniversary of the White House with an American musical salute to the new millennium; and

WHEREAS, each state was invited to send two musical groups to represent their home state at the celebration in Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, Bernalillo middle school band will be New Mexico's sole representative at the celebration; and

WHEREAS, over Memorial Day weekend, the band will be performing on the lawn of the White House and the steps of the Lincoln memorial; and

WHEREAS, to pay for their trip, the band members have raised over thirty-two thousand dollars ($32,000) through fund-raising activities and donations by Sandoval county, the city of Bernalillo and area businesses; and

WHEREAS, parents and band members are working diligently to raise the remaining amount needed to pay for the band's travel expenses;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the members of the Bernalillo middle school band and band director Roger Alt be recognized for their initiative, hard work and dedication in preparing to represent New Mexico at the American musical salute to the new millennium; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the citizens of New Mexico encourage and support the Bernalillo middle school band's participation as the state's official representative to the two hundredth anniversary celebration of the White House; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be given to band director Roger Alt and the Bernalillo middle school band.
