A JOINT RESOLUTION

PROPOSING AN AMENDMENT TO ARTICLE 4, SECTION 27 OF THE CONSTITUTION OF NEW MEXICO TO ALLOW SALARY CHANGES OF PUBLIC OFFICIALS TO TAKE EFFECT UPON LEGISLATIVE ENACTMENT.



BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. It is proposed to amend Article 4, Section 27 of the constitution of New Mexico to read:

"No law shall be enacted giving any extra compensation to any public officer, servant, agent or contractor after services are rendered or contract made [nor shall]. The compensation of any officer shall not be increased or diminished during his term of office, [except as otherwise provided] unless the legislature is granted the power to provide by law for the officer's compensation in this constitution."

Section 2. The amendment proposed by this resolution shall be submitted to the people for their approval or rejection at the next general election or at any special election prior to that date which may be called for that purpose.
