A JOINT MEMORIAL

REQUESTING IMPROVEMENTS TO STATE HIGHWAY 264 BETWEEN UNITED STATES HIGHWAY 666 AND THE ARIZONA BORDER IN MCKINLEY COUNTY.



WHEREAS, state highway 264 between United States highway 666 and the Arizona border in McKinley county is used daily by thousands of motorists; and

WHEREAS, this traffic includes heavy trucks moving merchandise in and out of New Mexico as well as heavy vehicles employed in nearby mining operations; and

WHEREAS, the road is the main thoroughfare in that part of McKinley county, accommodating loaded school buses as well as other traffic; and

WHEREAS, the constant and heavy use of this highway has resulted in substantial surface damage to the road, including dangerous potholes and other disturbances which endanger lives and property and necessitate expensive repairs to vehicles;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that the state highway and transportation department move expeditiously to repair, improve and resurface state highway 264 between United States highway 666 and the Arizona state line; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this memorial be sent to the state highway engineer for presentation to the state highway commission.
