AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO MEET THE CRITICAL NURSING SHORTAGE IN NEW MEXICO; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. One million six hundred thirty-three thousand five hundred dollars ($1,633,500) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal years 2001 and 2002 for the following instruction and general education purposes in the following amounts:

(1) six hundred forty-three thousand dollars ($643,000) to expand college of nursing enrollment by adding teaching faculty and staff;

(2) four hundred ninety-four thousand eight hundred dollars ($494,800) to extend nursing faculty salaries to a twelve-month year; and

(3) four hundred ninety-five thousand seven hundred dollars ($495,700) to make salary market adjustments to retain faculty in the college of nursing.

B. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
