AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO DEVELOP NATIVE AMERICAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURAL CURRICULA AND ASSESSMENT STANDARDS FOR NATIVE AMERICAN LANGUAGE TRAINING AND TO PROVIDE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR BILINGUAL TEACHERS AND ADMINISTRATORS WHO SPEAK NATIVE AMERICAN LANGUAGES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Two hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to develop Native American language and cultural curricula and assessment standards for Native American language training and to provide professional development for bilingual teachers and administrators who speak Native American languages. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
