AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO REPLACE OUTDATED AND OBSOLETE BOOKS AND READING MATERIALS IN PUBLIC SCHOOL LIBRARIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three million two hundred thousand dollars ($3,200,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 for the purpose of replacing outdated and obsolete books and reading materials in public school libraries throughout New Mexico. Funding shall be allocated based on the rate of ten dollars ($10.00) per student. No funds from this appropriation shall be used for administrative purposes at the state or local level. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
