AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION FOR A CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT TO ABOLISH THE STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million five hundred thousand dollars ($1,500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the secretary of state for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to hold a special election in 2001 for a constitutional amendment to abolish the state board of education if a resolution to that effect passes the first session of the forty-fifth legislature. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
