AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR RESEARCH AND OTHER ACTIVITIES RELATED TO THE ACQUISITION OF FEDERAL FUNDS FOR THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A DEDICATED FUSION ENERGY LABORATORY IN NEW MEXICO; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of New Mexico institute of mining and technology for expenditure in fiscal years 2001 and 2002 to enable the college of engineering to conduct research and other activities related to the acquisition of federal funds for the establishment of a dedicated fusion energy laboratory in New Mexico. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
