AN ACT

MAKING APPROPRIATIONS TO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION TO EQUALIZE ATHLETIC SCHOLARSHIPS AND TO EQUALIZE THE DISPARITY BETWEEN ACTUAL TUITION COSTS FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND BUDGETED TUITION CREDITS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATIONS.--The following amounts are appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the following post-secondary educational institutions for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 for the following purposes, and any unexpended or unencumbered balances remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund:

A. one hundred fifty-two thousand nine hundred sixty-four dollars ($152,964) to the board of regents of New Mexico highlands university to equalize the cost of athletic scholarships at national collegiate athletic association division II schools in New Mexico;

B. seventy-nine thousand seventy dollars ($79,070) to the board of regents of western New Mexico university to equalize the cost of athletic scholarships at national collegiate athletic association division II schools in New Mexico;

C. one hundred fourteen thousand eight hundred twenty-nine dollars ($114,829) to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico to equalize the disparity in fiscal year 2001 funding between the tuition credit allowed for athletic scholarships and actual tuition cost;

D. sixty-four thousand nine hundred ninety-nine dollars ($64,999) to the board of regents of New Mexico state university to equalize the disparity in fiscal year 2001 funding between the tuition credit allowed for athletic scholarships and actual tuition cost;

E. ten thousand eight hundred sixty-seven dollars ($10,867) to the board of regents of eastern New Mexico university to equalize the disparity in fiscal year 2001 funding between the tuition credit allowed for athletic scholarships and actual tuition cost;

F. ten thousand five hundred fifteen dollars ($10,515) to the board of regents of New Mexico highlands university to equalize the disparity in fiscal year 2001 funding between the tuition credit allowed for athletic scholarships and actual tuition cost; and

G. eight thousand three hundred ninety-four dollars ($8,394) to the board of regents of western New Mexico university to equalize the disparity in fiscal year 2001 funding between the tuition credit allowed for athletic scholarships and actual tuition cost.
