AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION FOR A READING AND WRITING PROGRAM AT HAYES MIDDLE SCHOOL IN ALBUQUERQUE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Forty-five thousand dollars ($45,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal years 2001 and 2002 to provide additional educational aides, training and necessary books and materials for a supplemental reading and writing program for students with reading and writing deficits at Hayes middle school in Albuquerque. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
