AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH TO PROVIDE INTENSIVE COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES FOR AT-RISK YOUTH AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN THE SOUTH BROADWAY AREA OF ALBUQUERQUE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Two hundred forty-two thousand dollars ($242,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of health for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to provide intensive community-based services for at-risk youth and community members in the south Broadway area of Albuquerque. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

B. The program shall consist of the following three elements:

(1) a school operating during the day focusing on dropouts and youth who have been excluded from Albuquerque public schools and also attempting to provide services to family members of the youth involved and to other identified community members;

(2) a critical hours program running during the evening hours, focusing on children in the juvenile justice system; and

(3) a job awareness program to offer specialized job training and certification to people with high school diplomas and general equivalency diplomas.
