Your EDUCATION COMMITTEE, to whom has been referred



SENATE BILL 180, as amended



has had it under consideration and reports same with recommendation that it DO PASS, amended as follows:



1. Strike all senate education committee amendments.



2. Strike Senate Floor Amendment 2.



3. On page 1, line 12, strike "SUPPLEMENTAL READING INSTRUCTION; REQUIRING" and insert in lieu thereof "READING ENHANCEMENT FOR".



4. On page 1, line 13, after "LEVEL" strike the remainder of the line and strike lines 14 and 15 and insert in lieu thereof a period.



5. On page 1, lines 20 and 21, strike "MANDATORY SUPPLEMENTAL READING INSTRUCTION" and insert in lieu thereof "READING ENHANCEMENT".



6. On page 1, line 22, after "shall" strike the remainder of the line, strike line 23 and, on line 24, strike "instruction" and insert in lieu thereof "provide reading enhancement in grades two through ten,".



7. On page 1, line 25, after the period strike the remainder of the line and on page 2, strike lines 1 through 3.



8. On page 2, lines 4 through 12, strike Subsection B and insert in lieu thereof the following new subsection:



"B. Before the end of the school year, the reading proficiency of all students in grades one through nine shall be determined based upon a combination of state-mandated assessments and local school or district reading assessments. A student who is determined not to be reading at grade level shall be provided reading enhancement."".





9. On page 2, line 16 through page 3, line 11, strike Section 2.
