AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION TO CONTRACT FOR A STUDY REGARDING THE CAUSES AND EFFECTS OF OVERCROWDING IN SECURE DETENTION FACILITIES FOR JUVENILE OFFENDERS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the department of finance and administration for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to contract for a study regarding the causes and effects of overcrowding in secure detention facilities for juvenile offenders. The study shall detail the extent of overcrowding in those facilities and set forth short-term and long-term recommendations for resolving the overcrowding. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
