AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC EDUCATION TO IDENTIFY AND TREAT MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS IN FOURTH THROUGH SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to purchase mental health early identification and violence prediction instruments; to train fourth through sixth grade teachers, social workers and counselors to identify mental health problems in students and to interpret mental health early identification and violence prediction instruments; and to contract for community-based mental health services for students with mental health problems. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
