AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR TRANSITIONAL COUNSELING SERVICES FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO THE WORK FORCE.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Three million dollars ($3,000,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the state department of public education for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to provide counseling services for the transition of high school students into the work force or into post-secondary educational institutions for employment training. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

B. The state department of public education shall ensure that the counseling services include:

(1) career selection and other skills useful to students preparing to enter the workforce;

(2) rehabilitation counseling and services for students with disabilities; and

(3) individual counseling services to assist high-need students in completing high school graduation requirements.
