AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO PROVIDE A SALARY INCREASE FOR STATE JUSTICES AND JUDGES.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--One million three hundred seventy-nine thousand dollars ($1,379,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the appropriate judicial entities for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to provide justices of the supreme court with a ten percent salary and benefits increase from ninety thousand four hundred seven dollars ($90,407) to ninety-nine thousand four hundred forty-eight dollars ($99,448) and, pursuant to the provisions of Section 34-1-9 NMSA 1978, a salary and benefits increase for the chief justice of the supreme court, the chief judge of the court of appeals, judges of the court of appeals, district court judges, metropolitan court judges and magistrate court judges. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
