AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO CONTINUE PUBLIC OUTREACH AND EDUCATION TO REACH POSSIBLE VICTIMS OF URANIUM RADIATION EXPOSURE; DECLARING AN EMERGENCY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Ninety thousand dollars ($90,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal years 2001 and 2002 to continue public education and outreach to individuals and families who may be victims of radiation exposure from uranium mining to help them receive federal benefits available from the uranium miners compensation fund. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

Section 2. EMERGENCY.--It is necessary for the public peace, health and safety that this act take effect immediately.
