AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE NEW MEXICO OFFICE OF INDIAN AFFAIRS TO CONTRACT FOR AN INDIAN ART HISTORY OUTREACH PROGRAM TO SERVICE ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY STUDENTS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND CONTRACT SCHOOLS FOR THE BUREAU OF INDIAN AFFAIRS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--

A. Five hundred thousand dollars ($500,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the New Mexico office of Indian affairs for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 to contract for an Indian art history outreach program to service elementary and secondary students in public schools and contract schools for the bureau of Indian affairs. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.

B. The contractor for the program shall collaborate with the state department of public education, school districts and the institute of American Indian arts to develop curricula for the program. The program shall focus on Indian art history curricula and shall be integrated with the local district requirements for a comprehensive arts education program.
