AN ACT

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO SCHOOL OF LAW TO STUDY AN ALTERNATIVE PROCESS FOR WATER RIGHTS ADJUDICATIONS.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO:

Section 1. APPROPRIATION.--Fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) is appropriated from the general fund to the board of regents of the university of New Mexico for expenditure in fiscal year 2002 for the school of law to conduct a study and to develop recommendations, in cooperation with the office of the state engineer, for prioritization of existing state court water rights adjudications within ground water basins and stream systems and for assessment of the resources needed by the courts and the office of the state engineer to expedite the completion of adjudications. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance remaining at the end of fiscal year 2002 shall revert to the general fund.
